Red Driving School is taking the safe driving message directly to the people it affects most.
Government statistics show that young people between 17 and 24 are far more likely to be involved in crashes than any other age group on the road. Red think it is time to take action and believe they have a responsibility to get involved in helping educate that group before they even get into the driving seat and out on the road.
The company has created The Shuttle (see picture below) which is visiting schools across the country.
The Shuttle gives 17- and 18-year-old pupils the opportunity to get hands on experience of the features on a car that make the vehicle safe or not. They also hear from Red’s Road Safety Officer Andy Milne about good driver attitudes, the dangers of speeding and fatigue and the impact of drink and drugs on driving. Andy, who is a former teacher and advanced driving instructor, also runs through the requirements of the theory element of the driving test and what is expected of newly-qualified drivers.
Andy comments: “Red Driving School is proud to be helping young people – who are the most likely to be involved in crashes – to understand the issues involved in road safety and to avoid the pitfalls. On the more positive side, we are also keen for them to understand the pleasures of safe driving.”
The Shuttle gives pupils the chance to see first hand the workings of
a car, both inside and out, and the factors that need to be constantly
monitored to be safe on the road.
